Charge for cancelling insurance

I insured my Mercedes SL in December 2011 with Lancaster Insurance and paid the annual fee in full at inception. I sold the car in July and notified Lancaster of this.I am not replacing the car. They have sent me a bill £16.70 for cancelling my policy. I should have kept my mouth shut and let the policy run its course and not renewed. I have explained to Lancaster Insurance that I paid up in full at the inception of the policy but they will not budge. New customers beware!
