Buying an old (up to 15 years old) used 4x4

I need a second car for a once-or-twice a week 60-mile journey on narrow twisty roads. I frequently meet large 4x4s and lorries speeding down the middle of the road, forcing me into hedgerows. Am I crazy to look for an old (10-years or more) CR-v or Vitara (or anything else) with an unlovable body that can take some abuse?

For this you need the biggest, meanest looking truck or pick up you can afford.
