3 Series misfiring
I have owned this car since February 2012, local BMW dealership investigated intermittent engine misfire in February and advised loose coil pack, but a new set (recommended) £300.
Due to having a 3rd party warranty in place an independent garage replaced the coil packs & plugs resulting in better performance & fuel consumption. Last week car went to BMW dealership for oil service, advised BMW were upgrading coil-packs & Software FOC, so had replaced again.
In the last 5 days the engine misfire returned in excess of 20 times. If you turn the ignition off and restart the misfire goes away for a short time (5yds or 5 miles). Now rebooked into BMW dealership where they want me to pay £100 for diagnostics?
However the 2.0, 2.5 & 3.0 petrol all have this known problem. Can you advise on the technical nature of this problem?

The BMW dealer messed it up so you don't have to pay for the diagnostics for the dealer to to correct this and if the misfire sparked the cat converter then the dealer/BMW has to pay for that too. Law: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
