SEAT Leon alarm and door lock problem

My alarm has gone off of it's own accord, with no outside influence, on a regular basis since late February 2012. This has happened on at least 30 days, once 14 times in a night. It has been in to my local SEAT dealer - Colliers in Acocks Green, Birmingham - a total of 10 times over this problem.

To date they claim to have replaced the near-side front door lock, replaced the control unit, re-configured the settings 3 times, altered the sensitivity setting of the sensors but all to no avail.

This has cost me £500 so far and the problem still persists. Most recently they had the car for 10 days yet when I went to collect it they had to jump start it (something I have never had to do with this car) and clamed it was because the car had not been used for 10 days.

I have not used it when I've been abroad for 2 weeks on a number of occasion and it has been fine upon my return. They then revealed the internal lights stayed on and "door open notification" on the dashboard too. The car interior is empty and the air vents are closed - this has been the case since the 2nd time they had it in as they suggested this could be causing the alarm to be triggered.

Currently they now still have the car and are going to, and I quote, "give it one last attempt". This whole episode has cost me money, many many sleepless nights with the alarm sounding more than once and time off work (when they have been unable or unwilling to make a courtesy car available).

They had a similar problem with another Leon over the last few weeks and their attempts to fix it cost the lady £1k and led to problems with all her electric windows. They have now advised her that they cannot fix the car and she should sell it to another car dealership.

When she queried how she could do that with a faulty car they told her "that's for the dealer to spot, just don't try selling it to us". This was all from the mouth of one of the staff at Colliers!

From internet research I am aware that the alarm and door lock problem has affected many other Leons.

Please can you intervene as I feel this is a neverending problem. Where do I stand from a legal viewpoint - are SEAT obliged to fix it? If they can't fix it am I within my rights to ask them to replace the car for one of a similar spec and age?

The ECU for the door locks and windows sits inside the driver's door where it is vulnerable to moisture ingress. It's a fundamental problem. My guess is that the replacements have not been adequately sealed against moisture ingress.
