Buying a new car and delivery date not met, can I cancel and get my deposit back?

I have signed a contract for an audi A1 with a verbal agreement for it to be delivered in one week, we are now in our third week and still no confirmed delivery date.

I parted with £500 to make the order, if I cancel the contract will i lose this money or can they not hold onto it?

What can I do apart from getting a date in writing that i am happy with, if the date they propose is not within a reasonable time frame for me , again, can I pull out of the contract and get my money back? thanks in advance

Read the contract. The dealer is probably not in breach of it. But if this goes on for weeks and months the dealer could be held to be imposing an "unreasonable" term and a court might compel him to return your deposit.
