Poor fuel consumption.

I have a SEAT Ibiza 1.2TSI DSG which I bought new in March for this year and has now completed 1,000 miles.

Fuel consumption is hovering around the 30mpg mark (and not improving with milage) which I consider wholly unacceptable. The dealer tells me that, because there are no lights on the dash, there is nothing he can do and SEAT tells me it can do nothing until the car has done 5000 miles.

While I do appreciate that the car will require more miles before the fuel consumption optimises itself I cannot see it increasing by 50%+.

I don't consider my driving style to be at fault as the other cars I drive deliver what I consider to be acceptable fuel consumption. Is this a common problem with this engine or am I wholly unrealistic in my expectations of an average of 40 mpg?

That's pretty bad. Please enter it in www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg Another reader has already done so and once two or more entries are received they will appear. Providing your use involves reasonable distances, you should be getting closer to 40mpg from this car. If it's all short runs from cold, then 30mpg would be normal.
