How can a 1.8 be quicker than a 1.6?
I own a 2007 Ford Focus 1.8TDCI Titanium, best car I have ever driven (thanks for the recommendation 3 years ago John). Looking at getting a nearly new model (new shape) but they don't make the 1.8 engine any more. Its either a 2.0 or 1.6. However, the 1.6TDCI boasts the same 0-60 speed as my beloved 1.8TDCI. Is this true and how do they manage it?

I never recommended the 1.8TDCI. It is actually a very old engine developed from the 1.6 diesel fitted to the Fiesta in about 1983. The 1.6TDCI is a modern engine. But it had problems in the 2004 - 2008 Focus. These appear to have been fixed from the 2008 facelift (I ran a 1.6TDCI Econetic for a year with no problems). See the car by car entries:
