Fiat 500 disc and pad wear
I booked my daughters car in for its second service with GMD Durham at 27,062miles. Its first was at 13,068 miles carried out by Petch in Darlington.
They reported that the front pads were 98% worn and had damaged the discs. At my request they fitted the new discs and pads immediately as my daughter uses the car every day for a 60 mile round trip commute.
I questioned how this could have occurred, as I presume that on inspection at the first service sufficient pad material was left to last to the next service - which could be a further 12,000 or 18,000 miles, plus a safety factor.
They told me that the wear indicator that is fitted to only 1 front pad had not picked the wear up as that pad had not worn to the same degree as the others.
I contacted Fiat UK customer services, they stated that no wear indicator was present and that the wear was acceptable, that it was the way my daughter drove, something which I disagreed with.
They refused to offer any kind of refund on the cost incurred.
What is your opinion on this?
I would not expect my daughter to have to inspect her discs/pads between Fiat recommend services intervals (12 or 18k).
The tyres are also due for replacement at 27,000miles, is this an acceptable mileage for a Fiat 500? She has the 185/55 fitted.

I'm surprised because at 14k miles my now 4 year old 500 was showing virtually no wear to the front discs or pads. 185/55 is the standard 15" tyre for a Lounge on 15" alloys, a standard upgrade for a Pop. But 27k miles is good. Presumably Michelin Energy Saver tyres?
