Changing the gearbox oil on a Golf
Taking your previous advice I persisted in asking my franchise dealer (bought car from them) every year about changing the transmission oil in my 55 plate Golf V.
They always say there are no recommendations to do this, stating there is a magnet in the gear box to collect swarf.
The car is now 6+ years old, although low miles (almost always just infrequent long journeys).
They are now suddenly willing to change the oil, even giving me a price!
Do you still recommend I do this, taking into account the swarf being much finer, but given the car's history the gears are not changed that often?

Really up to you. In my opinion some of the damage will already be done, but fresh oil should still make the gearchange smoother.
