Gripping yearn
I had a 3-year old VW Passat estate fitted with 235/55 R17 tyres. I bought a spare set of steel wheels fitted with winter tyres marked 205/55 R16 for this car from my local VW dealer. I have just changed the Passat for a VW Tiguan 4WD fitted with 235/55 R17 wheels and tyres. I kept the spare set of winter wheels/tyres and wondered if I could fit them to my Tiguan and if there would be any benefit in doing so if we get another bad winter?

In theory, yes. Try the fronts first for clearance around the brakes of the Tiguan. And compare the bolts. With some cars you need different bolts for steel wheels. With others you don't. If they fit, you will have to disclose the change to your insurer, but your insurer should not increase your premium as a result.
