Wint some, lose some

We live in rural Devon and, after the last two winters and based on your advice, I am looking to get a set of winter wheels and tyres. Both my wife and I drive diesel automatics; she has a rear wheel drive Mercedes C200 coupe and I have a front wheel drive SAAB 9-3 estate. Which car would be most suited to the winter tyres?

The Mercedes needs them most. The front drive SAAB will get through worse snow when equipped with them. They must be fitted to all four wheels otherwise the car could become uncontrollable while descending an icy or snowy hill.
