I am thinking of approaching my local Honda dealer to find out if they would be interested in exchanging a set of normal profile tyres and wheels, from the second hand stock in their group for the 225/45 R17s on my 2008 Honda Civic 2.2 EX. If I could do this it would simplify the change to winter tyres and improve the ride. Could you please tell me if there are any insurance or gearing implications.

You need to disclose to your insurer the change from standard specification but the ABI has ruled that you should not be penalised for it. You can reasonably closely match the rolling circumference with 16" wheels, probably with 205/55 profile tyres.
