A third party wants to involve his insurance company following a minor accident - where do I stand?
I recently had an accident where I was reversing out of a parking space and, as I did so, another driver reversed across my path and we collided. There was damage to his passenger side rear panel and initially I agreed to pay for repairs. After the collision he had to climb out of the passenger door due to a previous problem with the drivers door. However, the next day a witness to the incident came forward and said we were both reversing at the same time.
I contacted the other driver by text nine times during the next week to sort out the damage to his car, as well as calling at the address he gave me four times. On one of the visits I found out that he does not live there. Nine days after the incident the other driver contacted me to say that he wanted to involve insurance companies as his passenger was feeling pains in his shoulder. This is the same person who I saw jacking the car up two hours after the incident. No police were called to the incident and, when asked, all parties said they were not injured. I know this could end up being my word against theirs but where do I stand?

He’s taken advice from some ambulance-chasing personal injury shyster. Tell him you dispute what he has said and you want to take the matter to court where, if the judge decides he is lying, he could get a prison sentence for perjury. He has already committed an offence by not giving you his correct address, so you can threaten to report him for that, assuming, of course, the police can find him.
