Fronts and family
My son is about to take his driving test, and his mind has turned to insuring his car assuming he passes. Currently he's with Learner Drivers Direct, which is part of Collingwood, and they were very competitive whilst he's been a learner. Mike Rutherford mentioned that 'fronting' isn't illegal in a recent article. Although my son owns his own car and insures it himself, is it possible to insure it in my name with him as a named driver? I have two cars of my own and my wife also has her own car.

'Fronting' isn't illegal, but running without insurance is and if fronting disqualifies your insurance then you are running uninsured and that is illegal. Best solutions for young drivers I have so far found: * Young driver insurance based on mileage and in monthly instalments: www.Insurethebox.com * Young driver car and insurance packages: Standard rate PCPs, but insurance for 17 year olds from £300 for 9 months followed by a 40% NCD. www.youngmarmalade.co.uk * Young driver insurance to drive the family car up to IG16/20 at £90.95 to£99.50 a month according to postcode. www.provisionalmarmalade.co.uk * Young driver insurance: www.cis.co.uk * Young Driver Insurance: A policy suited to 17-25 year old, discounted by up to 40% as the car must not be driven between 11pm and 5am. www.i-kube.co.uk
