Your correspondent should consider driving on motorways at a slower, more relaxed speed.
May I suggest your correspondent NH, Salisbury, travels at a more leisurely speed of 60mph and in the nearside lane? This way the only real stress is overtaking (carefully) the occasional slow-moving trucks and caravans. On motorways I now pursue this method of driving and arrive less stressed and, dare I say it, can enjoy the countryside better. Besides, it only takes me an extra few minutes travel time to cover the 200 miles. A favourable price to pay.

It might surprise you, but this is pretty much the way I, too, travel, keeping myself awake by constant vigilance of everything going on around me and trying to accommodate all other drivers on the road. By never creating and by avoiding any stressful situations, like you, I arrive at my destinations unstressed.
