Speed awareness curse

I recently attended a Speed Awareness Course (I had done 35mph in a 30 limit). Having checked the website I found that I would pay 50% more if I took it in South Wales rather than in Herefordshire. (£90 vs £60). On my course of 20 persons I found that 50% (including me) were caught by one specific camera. This course had thus generated £600 and perhaps more from one camera.

As a guess the real total for all speeding at this camera is nearer £2,000. I understand the need for speed limits. However, the specified prime objective of all Chief Constables is to prevent crime. An important but secondary objective is to catch criminals. I happen to live where we have an enlightened CC. As you enter Newport there are many "speed control" signs.

These illuminate in Green with ones actual speed if under 30mph. If exceeding 30mph they light up in Red. I find them to be a great warning. Can it be that other CCs ignore their prime objective with regard to motorists?

It certainly appears to be so for the above specific camera. For motorists it appears to be- "PAY UP & SHUT UP."

There is no doubt that people are living off speed awareness course. But better that sort of corruption than drivers getting points on their Licences that can affect their ability earn a living.

I agree, prevention of crime should take precedence over punishing of crime. So do the Tories, by stopping the funding of speed camera partnerships, even though the net gain to the Treasury was more than they cost.
