Insurance - old named driver accident penalising me
A few months ago, my sister-in-law hit a cylist on a zebra crossing. It was night, dark and he did not dismount or have any lights so she did not see him.
She was driving my car as a named driver on the policy. I did not claim for any damage to the car as it was minor, though the cylcist has been paid personal injury compensation by the insurers so they are counting it as a cliam. Luckily i had protected NCB.
My insurance has just come up for renewal and to my suprise my insurance premiums have gone up by around 60% despite removing my sister-in-law from the policy. I am told that this is because a claim has been made against my vehicle and so, as the policy holder, i am now left with higher premiums.
Is this usual? It seems stupid - surely i am not now a more riskier insurance candidate because of an accident someone else had when they were insured on my policy?

That's right. Any claim and your insurance premium goes sky high.
