Noisy air-con

The air conditioning on our Vauxhall Meriva is playing up (making a strange noise at times), we cannot afford to get it fixed at the moment but have a long journey coming up (holiday).

Will it be ok to use the car on this journey if we don't have the air con on (we don't really use it anyway, which may have been part of the problem)? We just need to know if the car should be ok to use as it is?

If the a/c clutch pulley runs freely then no problem. If it doesn't or makes a noise then you do have a problem. Have no idea from your email what is wrong with the a/c. Might be pump clutch, might be pump, might be evaporator, might be heat exchanger...
