Court summons
During last year summer (June 2010) I had an accident which resulted in my car going into the garage. The car was kept in the garage for four months due to lack of parts (which had to ordered in) and incompetent garage mechanics.
During this time, my road tax was due for expiration, however I was unable to renew it as my car needed an updated MOT which of course could only be carried out once the car was repaired. Also, during this time, the car was moved from one garage to another.
I received a notice saying that I owed a fine (£60) for not having an up-to-date tax disc during that period which I immediately informed the garage, who said that they would inform the DVLA that they had the car in their possession and that the issue would then be resolved.
Just this week (6 months later) I have received a court summons from the DVLA for not having a valid tax disc during that period. The fine should I be found guilty is £1500.
I have contacted the garage to find out what happened when they "sent the letter to the DVLA" however do not think that they ever sent that letter.

You should have made a Statutory Off Road Notification as soon as the tax became due.
