Lexus hybrid failure

I have a RX400h, 2007 with 94,000 miles.

Owned the car from new, full dealer history. I had a fault coming up on the dash saying 'hybrid system failure' and a VSC code.

Car now in the Lexus dealers, I am told that the ECU and inverter need replacing (I have a Warranty Direct insurance).

I Goggled the fault and it seems that this issue is very common especially in the US with 06 models (all Toyota hybrids).

Apparently the inverter was redesigned (pump failure was common which caused the inverter failure) from 06 onward.

At the moment I am waiting for a decision from WD to approve the work (fingers crossed!).

Are you aware of this issue? I really like the car and I wish to keep it for a long time, but it looks to me that some parts will be mega expensive to replace as time goes by, especially if you don't have an extended warranty. Lexus want £1000 a year for they extended warranty.

No, I wasn't aware of the issue before but am now so will include in car by car breakdown. The hybrid drive system on Lexus is only warranted for 5 years, whereas it is warranted for 8 years in a Prius.
