Will claiming on car hire excess cover affect my car insurance price?

What is the position in regards to damage to a holiday hire car? A friend hired a car in Cyprus and arranged separate car hire excess cover. His car was damaged while parked and he has paid €750 to the car hire company. Will he have to declare this incident to his UK car insurance at renewal if he makes a claim on the excess insurance. He doesn’t have protected NCD as he is very young.

Even if your policy which covers you for driving abroad is separate to your UK car insurance policy, you’ll still need to declare any claims made. That’s because claims go against the driver, rather than the vehicle, so your insurer will need to know about it. Failing to do so could invalidate your cover or stop you from getting cover in future. So always be honest.
