Car insurance troubles

I have two cars and the insurance of the second car (my wife’s) is coming up for renewal.

My daughter, who is a full time student living away from home, uses my wife’s car only during the holidays when she is home – a total of three to four months a year, at most.

She does not take it to university as it is my wife’s car and she uses it daily.

I rang Directline to get a quote and they said that as my wife had access to my car, I had to change the input details to my wife’s car to say that the car was actually my daughters (untrue) and that she is the primary user (untrue) in order to get a valid quote.

Basically I was told to lie and do something that I did not want to (ie give my wife’s car to my daughter). They would not accept reality, even if it was the truth, which it is.

The sales man at the call centre agreed that this was a stupid situation but said that this is their new policy/rule. This daft scenario does not appear when you fill out their forms online, but apparently will/does appear when you call them to discuss it?

Is this true of other insurance companies or is Directline just being daft ?

That is complete, utter and total nonsense.

Go somewhere else. In fact it is of benefit to the quotes to have two mature named drivers on each policy.
