National Mileage Register and webuyanycar.com
I just took a Skoda Fabia to 'webuyanycar' in Newhaven and the dealer made a check on the NMR website which showed the following discrepancies in the mileage.
DVLC Feb 2008 44000
NMR 31st July 2008 39000
I bought this car on 5th July 2008 from a main Skoda dealer, and the car had 43981 on the clock and a full service history, which the webuyanycar dealer saw.
As a result of the information on the NMR database the webuyanycar made us an offer which was about 50% of what it should have been.
How does information get put onto the NMR database and what sort of checks do they make. Surely NMR should have questioned an entry that indicated the cars milage had gone backwards?

DVLA (not DVLC) records mileages submitted during MoT tests and these are sometimes miskeyed but cannot later be altered. NMR request information from previous keepers. But even after three years you might still have a case against the dealer who sold you the car.
