What is the most reliable used hatchback?
Can you recommend a reliable used hatchback for around £9,000? My annual mileage is around 20,000, consisting of short trips of no more than 15 miles at a time. The car would be preferably manual.

The Toyota Auris has a very good reputation for reliability and low running costs.
The 1.2 and 1.3 petrols are available with a manual gearbox and will return around 44mpg, according to the latest Real MPG submissions. However, if you can make the switch to an automatic gearbox, I'd suggest the Auris 1.8-litre petrol hybrid - it will comfortably return 50+mpg and uses Toyota's dependable CVT transmission.
