Engine choice for Channel Islands low speed use
I live in Guernsey (low speed limits but steep hills and no salting permitted because of run-off to our resevoirs so 4WD perhaps desirable), annual mileage c5-6K so comparative fuel cost is less important than good engine handling. Would the 1.2 petrol (no 4WD available) be adequate or should I look for a larger 1.8 or possibly diesel engined model without any turbo-charger cooling off need?.
My experience with a TDCi 2.0 Focus had put me off diesel engines (I now drive a petrol CMax 2.0 Ghia) but my husband says auto cut outs on diesel engines at 800RPM no longer occur. We also have "filter in turn" so handling at roundabouts is a (big) consideration!
