Dual mass flywheel failure on a Vauxhall Insignia
How can I tell if the DMF burnt out the clutch or if the clutch destroyed the DMF?
I am being accused of driver error and therefore responsible, but I have been informed by experienced mechanics that a faulty DMF can cause exactly the same problem.
The car has under 4000 miles on the clock and never in 47 years of driving, I have I burnt out a clutch. I see that the AA has also raised this issue.

A dual mass flywheel is designed to absorb torque reactions. But, of course, a two concentric piece flywheel held together by a sort of rubbery glue can have a short life. It appears that the greatest destroyer of them is letting out the clutch in traffic at idle speed. But only dismantling will show if the wear is in the clutch or the DMF, so you need to be there when it is dismantled.
