4x4 purchase dilemma?

My short list for purchasing a new 4x4 is a Nissan Juke, Hyundai ix35 or Qashqai in that order. Fuel consumption is a factor, the Juke is petrol (37mpg combined) diesel Qashqai & ix35 (40mpg). I have read the reviews and the Juke is tempting but a smaller crossover. Have you any comments?

The Juke is a good crossover but in terms of emissions and fuel economy it's nothing to write home about. It's also considerably smaller than the Hyundai ix35 and Nissan Qashqai. The 4x4 Juke only comes with a CVT gearbox too, which isn't the best, although the 1.6 DiG-T engine with 190bhp is very impressive, but the standard 1.6 petrol and 1.5 dCi are two-wheel drive. If you're after style and handling, we'd suggest the Juke, but if you want more practicality the Hyundai ix35 is your best bet.

It's good value and comes very well equipped as standard (it even has rear heated seats), plus it's economical. The 2.0 CRDi with 4WD has a claimed average of 49.6mpg on the combined cycle.

The only issue you may have is actually getting hold of one. It's proved very popular and Hyundai haven't been able to keep up with demand which has led to some very frustrated customers having the delivery date of their new car repeatedly delayed. We also carried out a live Q&A with the MD of Hyundai, Tony Whitehorn and several customers who had ordered ix35s. You can still view it here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/hyundai-live-qa
