Diesel Fuel Pump failure

My 1.5-litre Clio diesel is four years old, with 68k miles on the clock. I have been advised that the fuel pump has failed internally sending metal filings through the fuel injection system. To rectify this the vehicle will require a complete replacement fuel injection system estimated cost £4300 inc VAT.

Renault has offered me 35 per cent towards the cost of the repairs as a gesture of goodwill as the car is out of warranty.

However, I have heard of numerous similar problems with all models of Renault Diesels and wonder whether in the circumstances the 35 per cent is a fair offer.

The car has already done 68,000 miles and is four years old. The problem cam from lack of lubricity of the fuel used. It is not an inherent problem with the car.
