Disc grace
I have a two year old current model Honda CR-V and Honda insists that the front brake discs require changing due to them being worn and rounded on a car which has only done 17,500 miles and rarely carries a heavy load. Front and Rear Pads were also recommended for change due to being 95% and 75% worn respectively. This took the service cost up to a whopping £652. An independent service specialist who deals with Japanese imports and replaces tyres for us was amazed at the disc replacement, in particular stating that even the discs on Fords last 50,000 miles and Honda's should go much further than that. I feel a bit stung here and my protestations with the dealer and Honda UK have proved fruitless. How does this scenario sound to you?

Yes, discs on older Ford Mondeos last at least 50k miles. Don't ever think Fords are inferior quality. If used cars were valued on component quality and reliability rather than snobbery, used Fords would be dearer than Mercedes. 17,500 miles is not an acceptable life for front discs, so tell the supplying dealer you will go halves on the cost. If he won't accept this, tell him you'll see him in the small claims track of the county court for selling you goods not of "satisfactory quality".

My Corsa has just failed its MOT because of a 'strong imbalance' between the L and R rear brakes. Apparently this could either be a distribution valve, or possibly the Master Cylinder.
