Ka-by-Ka breakdown
My friend bought a V reg Ford Ka on 2nd March this year that had a current MOT dated from January 2009. A garage has told her that the car would not pass an MOT now, only 8 months later as -
1. the chassis has badly patched holes in it
2. the seat belt mountings are corroded
3. the sills have been filled with filler instead of welded metal plates
In light of this we find it hard to believe the car would have passed an MOT in January, but in contacting VOSA they do not investigate this type of case beyond 3 months from the date of MOT. My friend paid £1,200 for the car, has no money to buy another and has been told it is a deathtrap and not to drive it. Can you advise another organisation who could help her investigate this and get some recompense? Also, do Ford Kas have a history of this type of wear and tear?

Yes these are standard problems to be expected on an old Ka. See car by car breakdown at www.honestjohn.co.uk Local Trading Standards may be able to help and will already have a
casebook on the dealer if he has done this sort of thing before.
