Flawed angular?

We run two cars, an old Honda Shuttle for our family of six, and a two-year-old Peugeot 107 that my husband uses to get to work Monday to Friday and we both use at weekends for running the children around. The problem I have is the visibility from the Peugeot. I am about 5ft 2in and have a very limited field of view in the car. For example when I am pulling right out of a junction or pulling away from the side of the pavement my view over my left shoulder is virtually nil. The large, fixed headrests and the shape of the rear window effectively cut my sight all the way from the passenger window right round to the back window and I have a huge "blind spot". Twice recently I have nearly caused an accident by pulling out of a junction, making a right turn and have not been able to see a car travelling towards me on the main road. Both times the driver has had to brake hard and has been very angry with me, and I have been very unsettled by the experiences, enough that I now want to change the car for another model, something which my husband is flatly against because he doesn't have the same problems as me. Can you suggest anything I can do to help in this situation? Is there a way I can alter my driving to rectify this or do others share this problem with the Peugeot, C1 and Aygo?

The answer is to think like a van driver. Instead of positioning the car at a slight angle to the junction in the direction you want to turn, position it straight, at a right angle to the road you want to join. Then you get a perfect, unobstructed view through the side window of traffic approaching from the left.
