Rovanny 75
I’m looking to buy a Rover 75 diesel 2000 - 2003. What's the most reliable gearbox, Auto or Manual? I slightly prefer a manual but not enough to worry about. I may well be using it to tow a caravan. Any advice welcome (I know, forget the caravan). Up until recently had a Rover 825 diesel. Best bit of the car by far was the gutsy VM engine, rest rather dated.

The auto obviously makes it easier to pull away from rest, no strain on clutch and dual mass flywheel, but the torque converter is taking the strain and will need additional cooling. It's a Jatco 5-speeder as also fitted to the Galaxy diesel auto, Freelander diesel auto and Mondeo III diesel auto. The CDI 115 is more reliable than the CDTI 131. One reader has done 250,000 miles with no trouble in a 115.
