Crime Scream Investigation

Listening to the radio it now seems that motorway closures are becoming an everyday occurrence. Motorways are the arteries of our economy so I can only assume that we are having a spate of major pile-ups to warrant the disruption and enormous costs inherent in closing a motorway - not to mention the hold-ups, clogging of alternative routes and massive increase in greenhouse gasses caused by thousands of crawling vehicles. Have you any inside knowledge as to why this is happening? I assume that to close a motorway requires review and authorization by a very senior official (Chief Constable?) so what is going on. It makes every long distance journey by motorway into a lottery.

It merely requires a death for the road to be designated a 'crime scene' and for the primary requirement to be allocation of blame rather than keeping the country moving. This was introduced by Richard Brunstrom when he was ACPO Head of Road Policing and we all know what a great friend he has been to the motorist. His successor honourably resigned after being nicked by one of his own speed traps. Richard Brunstrom retired from Chief Police Officer for North Wales this month. Something useful that police forensics could check and record is whether there was any damage to the inner shoulders of the tyres of cars involved in motorway fatalities. This damage is almost invariably inflicted by speed cushions. It would be ironic if it was found they were killing more people than they are alleged to save.
