Hitchin a lift
After many years of reading your interesting and informative column, I have a question that needs your help. Our aging 1998 Rover 200 is getting near to needing replacement. While this car has served us well over many years, it does not meet an increasing need to seat five in reasonable comfort. I am trying to draw up a short list of suitable cars to look at and can find little information on rear seat width. Please can you help with either a source seat size data, or suggestions of candidate economical five door hatches?

Your best bet is to use Citroen's scrappage scheme to get a Xsara Picasso 1.6 110PS Desire for £7,995, which is less than half the (admittedly ridiculous) 'list price' of over £16,000. That has three separate, individually adjustable seats across the back.
