Boots

I have a 2005 VW Passat Trendline TDi PD 130 saloon that has done 81,000 miles and I am thinking of changing it. My problem is to find a suitable replacement. I drive about 20,000 miles a year and, being a wildlife photographer, appreciate the security of a boot for my cameras, etc. and also the lockable back seats that stop access to the boot from someone breaking into the vehicle. I am seeking a diesel powered alternative with a bit of 'poke', that will give 50+ mpg - as with the Passat. My budget is £7,000, plus what I can get for the Passat. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
