Adapating a low profile
I have a 2006/56 Mercedes CLK280. The rear Pirelli P Zero Rosso 255/35 ZR 18 94Y tyres needed replacing at 11,000 miles and the replacement pair have managed 14,000miles but are now also worn out. The front tyres are hardly worn. Is there an alternative to the Pirellis that will last longer but without detriment to the car's handling and be compatible with the Rossos on the front? There are cheaper tyres on various web sites. The best price for the Rosso is about £170 - but are they any good? Also I'll probably change the car within the next year and if I don't fit Pirellis will the car's trade in value be affected?

The problem is the ridiculous tyre size of 255/35 x 18. They are bound to wear heavily and are also vulnerable to speed cushions and potholes. A full set of equal size 16" wheels and tyres will last longer and give better ride comfort, but slightly less grip on the racetrack.
