Crash course

Both my sons (18 and 20) and I are named drivers on a Direct Line policy on my wife's car. Both sons have now passed their "Pass Plus" but the Insurance Company (Direct Line) doesn't want to know, and does not offer any discounts to named drivers who have their Pass Plus - contra to Government (DSA) "propaganda" which claims discounts are /widely/ available, and urges parents to put their kids through the Pass Plus course When I searched the market for discounts for young drivers after their "Pass Plus" I couldn't find many Insurance Company that was even remotely interested. Apart from the obvious benefits of new drivers getting additional instruction (well worth the £120) I would like to flag this up to your readers.

Direct insurers have very fixed criteria, based on low premiums for
Low risk cars and low risk drivers and stiff penalties for anyone or
anything else. The company made this statement: “Young drivers are the most likely group to make a claim on their insurance. Research amongst Direct Line's three million customers has shown young males have the highest claim rate amongst all ages and sexes during the first three years of driving, jumping from just over a one in five claim rate as a provisional driver, to two in five in the first full year. Young females start from a lower position of just under one in five, increasing to just less than one in three in the first year, before dropping steadily for the next three years.” So try a good broker such as www.primoplc.com Meanwhile, sleep easier at night knowing your sons have been taught how to drive more safely in real life situations not covered by the official driving test.
