Mini-mum
My post-pensionable mum is looking to replace her teenage Astra with something reliable and inexpensive to run and maintain. Journeys are typically local and short with a train being used for longer journeys. She has had both hips replaced but otherwise is fit. Having read your recommendation for a Hyundai i10, this is at the budget limit but the 5-year warranty is very appealing. I don't see anything to compete with it for value, and peace of mind, to suit my mum's needs. Are there any other options to consider?

Not really, no. The Nissan Pixo is cheaper, but that doesn't get here until June. The Suzuki Alto is already here, but not cheaper. The KIA Picanto is cheaper (under £6,000), but not quite as good as the i10.
