In capacity
When seeking car insurance quotes I have encountered significant difficulties relating to the exact description and engine capacity of my car and wondered if you can provide any clarification and / or words of advice? My registration document shows the car as a FORD FOCUS C-MAX GHIA AUTO and the engine capacity as 1,999cc.
My local Ford garage - using the VIN number from that document - has confirmed my car is fitted with the 2.0 litre Duratec-HE engine which has an exact capacity of 1,999cc as per registration document.
However, several Insurance Brokers, for example the AA, tell me they are unable to find a car matching this specification on their master database - which they tell me is provided by an organisation called the British Motor Insurers Association (or similar). It appears that my registration number brings up a description FORD FOCUS GHIA (no mention of C-MAX which would have a different insurance cost), with an engine capacity of 1,988cc - a capacity that Ford tells me does not apply to any of their recent 2.0 litre engines. Since there is a discrepancy between my registration document and the central database the AA have declined to provide insurance. While I recognise that my vehicle is not a common configuration I cannot believe this is the first time this problem has occurred. Your comments and / or suggestions on how to resolve this would be very much appreciated.

Your engine is 1,999cc. The Insurance Database is wrong because someone entered the wrong figure. Simple keying error: 88 instead of 99. That's what needs to be changed. But you’d avoid the problem entirely be describing your engine as 2-litre or 2,000cc.
