Renewal form

I recently had a reminder from DVLA to renew my driving licence which was due to expire in June. Enclosed with the reminder was a leaflet suggesting that the renewal could be made online at www.direct.gov.uk/renewalat70. I followed their instructions on 18th March, received an emailed confirmation from them the following day and today, 21st March, received my new licence by post. In contrast to the many complaints about the DVLA, I feel they should be congratulated.

It must have been paper licence to photocard, in which case the DVLA can use your biometric image from the passport agency (if you have renewed your passport recently). Unfortunately, if you have to renew a photocard, you still have to use a form and send a photo to the DVLA by post. Though this, too, may soon change.
