Mondo caned

I currently own a Ford Mondeo 2.5 Ghia X 5-door hatchback (March 04), which I purchased as a Ford Direct Car in Feb 2005. The car was a Ford management car and has sat nav, sunroof, rear park assist, plus all the usual "luxuries". My wife particularly appreciates the heated front seats. The car has now done 43,000 miles and is due for a service and MOT at the end of March. It has been a great car to own but perhaps it's time to change. I fancy another Ford Direct Mondeo (new style), but am somewhat baffled by the wide range of choices available. I still would like similar luxury (66 years old, 6ft 6 and a bad back), and would appreciate any advice you can give regarding levels of trim, possible price, performance etc for 08 models or later.

The equivalent new Mondeo has a Volvo 5-cylinder engine. Not really the same thing at all. The best is the 2.2 diesel, but that is not available with an auto. Ghia trim on the new Mondeo is ghiarish. Titanium is more subtle. 17" wheels nicer to ride on than 18s. Of the 3 position suspension settings, comfort is too soft and leads to
front end washout, sport is too hard. Standard is best. See the road test at: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=275 Faults emerging in car by car breakdown at hjuk. Alternatively, consider a Skoda Superb.
