Rejection slips
I buy and sell second-hand cars, trade, all under £1,000, and sell them with no warranty, but all are legally roadworthy and have no faults reported at the time the customer collects the car. But now I've had a couple quote the Sale of Goods act 1979 a few months after date of purchase. Where do I stand? I sell them sold as seen and tested with no warranty. They sign this and are happy with this at the time. Please advise.

See the FAQs at www.honestjohn.co.uk 'Consumer Rights: Rejecting a Duff Car'. It all depends on how “reasonable” the claim is. It’s reasonable for a customers to expect a 10 year old £1k car to be safe. It isn’t reasonable to expect it to have no faults at all.
