Privileged information

I am the second owner of a 1994 LHD Renault Twingo, imported twelve years ago. I receive a good insurance deal from Privilege, but out of curiosity I recently shopped around for online quotes and found that comparison insurance sites such as gocompare.com, and most individual companies, are unable to quote as they don't recognise the registration (which is the standard British one-initial, three-number, 3-initials for a car of its age) even though the car has been successfully taxed and insured in this country since being imported. Do all owners of imported cars get the same response, and can you throw any light on why this happens?

It's because the reg relates to an original LHD Twingo and they don't cover LHD Twingos.
