Shifty

I've got an auto diesel Colt, March 05 reg, now out of warranty but with a further 3 years extended cover. There are now some 125,000 on the clock. A few weeks ago the gearbox appeared to seize. The garage diagnosed worn clutch plates so this was not covered by the warranty. They replaced the clutch plate and I had to pay the £1,000 bill. A friend tells me he's never heard of clutch plates going in an autobox.

That's because it isn't an autobox. It's an electronically controlled automated manual. Electronics control the electrically motorised clutch and gearchanges. You did very well indeed to get 125k miles out of the clutch plates.
