Snow way to go
I am in the market to select a new car and have finally narrowed my choices down (from a very long list) to Skoda Superb 1.8TSI 4x4,
Nissan Qashqai+2 2.0 petrol, Subaru Legacy 2.5 litre. I want 4WD for multiple snowboarding trips per year and I really hate the inconvenience of chains. 4WD is of course a safety benefit in seriously wet conditions too. Obviously, an SUV isn't really needed and not wise in these days of 'green'. It should be big enough to take 4 people and their kit for hours on end through France or Germany to get to the good mountains. I've driven the Superb and think it's fantastic. But it's big, and not so convenient for day-to-day parking in the city. Any opinion you could give on the others how they rank would be gratefully received.

The Superb will be the most comfortable for four people and their gear. The Legacy is about the same size. The Qashqai +2 has a smaller ‘footprint’ and we got 38.1mpg out of a 2.0 petrol manual.
