Could you advise on a used car for my daughter approx £2,000 - £2,500. Model and age info would be helpful and any advice as to professional check on vehicle before purchase,

Hard to beat a FIAT Panda. For £2,000 - £2,500 it will be 2003 or 2004. It just did quite well in the latest JD Power Customer Satisfaction survey. More here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/fiat/panda-2003/ The RAC still offers used vehicle checks, but they are quite expensive and if you buy from a dealer you have an automatic 6 month come-back anyway.
