I have a MkV VW Golf. Recently it was diagnosed with the ESP failure and was only 3 weeks out of warranty when it happened. The car has full VW service history with the dealer I bought it from and has done only 21,000 miles since registered in March 2007. I’m waiting for VW to get back to me as repair is £1,500, which I cannot afford right now. Did VW give you assurances that they will deal with this problem for loyal customers free of charge, and if they do not offer me 100% goodwill what should I do?

If the car has been VW serviced, this should be replaced free of charge. If its history is less impeccable, VW will still contribute some of the cost. VW asks any VW owner with the problem to e-mail: volkswagencustomerservices@volkwagen.co.uk
