Varnishing point

My windscreen has been spotted with clear varnish used by a repairer for a minor body job. This is irritating as it makes the wipers noisy. What solvent can I use to get it off?

Autoglym windscreen cleaner, Mer windscreen cleaner, or toothpaste (that's tooth paste, not gel).
