Not a shred
I have owned a Honda Accord Tourer for over five years, and until last week, I have been fortunate in never having a puncture. To my horror, there was no spare wheel in the boot. Checking with the local dealer (from whom I bought not my past three Hondas for myself, and countless for the company) this is normal with the Tourer. Their response was that they do provide a gel to fix basic punctures. Sadly that was no good as my tyre had shredded. Fortunately I happened to be near home when this happened, but had spent the last week in Ross-shire in a very remote spot. Have I missed something with the motor industry, or is this normal practice with other makes? Although I have every faith in Honda, maybe I should change to one that provides a spare tyre rather than a fancy SatNav that is no use if you're immobile.

Standard practice these days. Yes, of course the repair kit cannot fix a shredded tyre. But actually the percentage of drivers left stranded is relatively small. Obviously the percentage of drivers seriously inconvenienced is much greater. The answer is to fit every car with a tyre pressure monitoring system and ‘get-you-home’ runflat tyres. These stay on the rims and do not shred.
