I am considering downsizing. Do you regard the 2010 model Toyota Yaris auto a best buy or do you recommend something else?

It's an automated manual, not a proper auto. I suggest a Hyundai i10 1.2 auto, Hyundai i20 1.4 auto, Suzuki Splash 1.2 auto, Nissan Note 1.6 auto, KIA Venga 1.6 auto. Toyota switched all UK Yaris from 4-speed torque converter auto to automated manual when the Yaris got its new body in late 2005. Neither Toyota not Honda will sell torque converter autos of the Yaris or the Jazz in the UK, even though Honda makes them for the South African market at its Swindon factory. Though you can get the 1.5 Yaris engine and 4-speed torque converter auto in a Suzuki Swift 1.5 automatic.
